Body Found in Ocean off Hermosa Beach Identified

A dead body that was found floating in the ocean near Hermosa Beach was identified Sunday as Michael Gilbert, a 56-year-old transient, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Gilbert was found dead in the ocean Thursday evening near neighboring Hermosa Beach after a boater to local authorities.

County detectives are continuing to investigate Gilbert's death.

It’s standard practice for homicide detectives to investigate incidents involving the discovery of bodies, Sgt. Rich Pena of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told City News Service.
