Motorcycle Crash Victim ID'd

Jennifer Jensen, 52, collided with a 1997 Toyota and was ejected from her bike. She leaves behind two sons in their 20s.

A 52-year-old Redondo Beach woman has died as a result of head trauma injuries she received on Friday, Dec. 23 around 3:15 p.m. when the motorcycle she was riding collided with a 1997 Toyota whose 17-year-old driver was making a U-turn at the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and 8th Street in Manhattan Beach.

The coroner's office identified the woman as Redondo Beach resident Jennifer Jensen, City News Service reported.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, entered the intersection on a green light while traveling southbound, according to a press release issued by the Manhattan Beach Police Department, "just as the driver of the Toyota was making his U-turn." She was unable to stop, collided with the car, and was ejected from her bike, landing a short distance away on the road.

MB Fire Department paramedics treated the woman at the accident scene and transported her to the Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital emergency room where she died. Two passengers in the Toyota were treated for minor injuries at the crash scene.

The traffic collision and investigation closed all southbound lanes of Sepulveda Boulevard for several hours.

The MBPD Victim Assistance Team responded to the accident scene and the hospital to assist those involved in the accident and their family members.

Jensen is survived by her two sons—Shawn Jensen, 23, and his brother Alex, 25, who is mentally disabled and on government assistance, according to an article in the Daily Breeze.

"I don't know what I'm going to do without her," Shawn told reporter Josh Grossberg. According to Grossberg's article, Jennifer Jensen provided the boys' main source of income through her disability payments stemming from a motorcycle crash several years ago.

So far, the MBPD's Police Officers Association has raised more than $500 to help the boys. The association also took Shawn Jensen to the store to buy Christmas dinner, and contacted a body shop to fix the family's car.

Jennifer Jensen had started riding the motorcycle again because she couldn't afford to repair the car or pay for its insurance, the Breeze reported.

Until the banks reopen after the Christmas holiday and a fund can be set up, the MB Police Officers Association is collecting donations on behalf of the family. Checks should be payable to the Manhattan Beach Police Officers Association and note that the money is for the Jensen family.

Checks can be mailed to the Manhattan Beach POA, PO Box 3542, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266.

The accident is still being investigated by the MBPD Traffic Bureau. Contact Sergeant Mark Mason at 310-802-5156 if you have information or questions.

City News Service contributed to this report.

Editor's Note: This article has been updated 12 noon Dec. 25 to reflect the age of Jennifer Jensen as 52, according to the coroner. The MB press release had her age as 53.
