MBPD Officer Vasquez Remembered During Memorial Services

Friends, family and fellow officers from neighboring cities paid respect to the late Officer Mark Vasquez on Thursday.

Those who knew Mark Vasquez say he was a friend to everyone. Thursday's funeral service honoring the Manhattan Beach police officer drew a tremendous outpouring of friends, family and comrades. Police officers from local cities turned out en masse to attend the memorial at American Martyrs Catholic Church and the following service at Green Hills Memorial Park, replete with a motorcade, gun salute and taps.

Officer Vasquez, 35, battled multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, for nearly five years before passing on May 15. He is survived by his wife Lee, two daughters Madison, 9, and Ashley, 7; his mother Jo Ubina, and his father Manuel Vasquez, Jr.
