Police Search for Home Burglary Suspect

Manhattan Beach police have been searching door to door on specific streets in the Tree Section looking for a suspect wanted in conjunction with a reported residential burglary attempt, according to police chatter on scanners and tweets from locals.

According to several tweets, a male child of the homeowner arrived home to find a black male in his mid-20s inside his home. MBPD set up a command post and perimeter around Palm and Maple avenues in the 3600 and 3500 block, later expanding their coverage to include the same areas on Pacific Avenue. Police dogs were used in searches in which police entered residential backyards.

A helicopter focused a spotlight on Palm and Maple from Rosecrans Avenue to 35th Street for at least 30-40 minutes, at one point telling the suspect to give himself up after telling residents to lock windows and doors.

A Mira Costa junior was not allowed back into the neighborhood after leaving to attend an evening class. When he returned, he was told he could not walk to his home on Pacific Avenue since the canine unit was at work.

Consequently, his mom made arrangements for him to drive to a friend's house to spend the night.

As of 11:25 p.m., police have called off the search after scouring the area.
