We're Off to See The Wiz

Beginning April 16, Mira Costa drama students will be performing "The Wiz"—based on the hit Broadway musical and 1978 movie adaptation of the Wizard of Oz.

The story is more than a century old, but the Wonderful Wizard of Oz is still wonderful. Drama students at Mira Costa High School are rehearsing diligently for their spring musical adaptation of the Broadway show "The Wiz" — which in 1978 became a hit movie starring Michael Jackson. A teacher from Harlem is transported to the Land of Oz, where she must conquer the bad-tempered Evilene and her "Funky Monkeys" in order to complete her mission for the all-powerful "Wiz" and get back home.

Unlike the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland, "The Wiz" turns up the tempo and breaks out the bling in classic '70s style. Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and even the Wicked Witch are getting their groove on in this soulful retelling of the much-loved tale.

Ease on down the road to Mira Costa High School April 16th through the 24th to catch a show. Tickets are available online at www.miracostadramaboosters.com/tickets. Admission is $11 for children and $13 for adults.
