Save Money and the Environment With This App

A free energy upgrade workshop will help residents sort through how they can be more energy efficient in their homes. Thursday night's free meeting will cover qualifying energy-saving home upgrade projects for rebates and incentives of up to $8,000.

Yes, indeed, there's an app for that.

Developed by Eco Hatchery, the Light Bulb Finder mobile app is a free tool for iPhone and Android whose "programs integrate personal engagement with tracking and reporting of aggregate energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions," according to their website.

According to Sona Kalapura, environmental programs manager for the city of Manhattan Beach, the app can show the bulb prices, expected payback and energy savings, helping residents select energy-efficient lighting for their homes.

The application's creators will join Kalapura and the city's Environmental Task Force at a free meeting Thursday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 1400 Highland Avenue.

Thursday night's ETF meeting will include a special presentation on the Energy Upgrade California program by the South Bay Environmental Services Center. Attendees will learn how to "green" their home with the Energy Upgrade California program available in Los Angeles County. "Property owners of detached single-family homes have the opportunity to complete qualifying energy-saving home upgrade projects and receive rebates and incentives of up to $8,000," according to Kalapura.
