The criminals have more rights than the victims. First we cater to them in prison by giving them…Read More more benefits and services than we give to our veterans. Now we are releasing early without serving their full sentence. The worse part is when these early release criminals commit a new minor crime, they aren't charged, sentenced and sent back to jail, they are given "flash incarceration" for 5-10 days in county jail.
I have a suggestion for Jerry Brown, if the jails are too full how about taking away the comforts making it an actual bad place to be. Jail should be a bad enough place that the threat of going would deter criminals.

Well, I'm studying for Nursing and this subject is something that I'm not very familiar with. But I…Read More like the article and agree that it's not a right decision letting prisoners be released earlier. In addition, having all that comfort in a jail doesn't prevent them from committing crimes again once they get out.

This article is very, very good..I am not for early release due to overcrowd, there has to be…Read More another solution. Take them to a island and just leave them there. Having a murder in my own family, is horrible and the thought of any crimnal getting out early just for that reason is not good enough, Think of something esle California...

California is near the bottom of spending on education, just ahead of Mississippi.
Of the limited…Read More education funds, the question is always: "Where does the money go?"
The less bureaucracy, the less bloated administration, the better. First thing we can do to free up education funds is to dump "No Child....er....No Testing Service Left Behind" -- an expensive boondoggle that has produced minimal results and encouraged teachers to teach the test or cheat the test.
Second, let kids collaborate more in the classroom, like smart businesses do. We should be educating for the 21st century, not for the industrial revolution.
The South Bay kids will always have enough resources to do just fine. If you want to predict academic success, just look at what is happening in the home. Are parents reading to kids and helping when necessary. Are parents going out of pocket for their kids' education? Here, the answer is yes.
Parents and their hard-working Education Foundations will always take care of the local kids, with or without government social engineering.
The schools with kids from broken homes, with minimal parental involvement, will always under-perform regardless of how much money is spent.
The people criticizing schools and teachers need to remember that education begins and ends at home. That is a statistical fact.
If you are paranoid about kids learning morals and values at school that don't square with your beliefs, then take more time to get involved and be an active parent. Or home school. Or limit what your kids are doing on the internet. (Or wrap them in a protective bubble and never let them leave the house).

Mr. Muratsuchi, thank you for working to communicate with the community this way, letting us know…Read More what your priorities are, and how to give input. I am SO glad that SCROC has an ally in Sacramento, as I truly believe it has been a phenomenal asset to our communities for decades, and it would be a travesty to see it go. I wish you could suggest our Governor come down to take a look at SCROC himself, and to see what other ROCs in other areas do, too.
As for the funding discrepancies for schools state-wide, I'm not sure there's a great solution for that. It does seem to be clear that enormous school districts like LAUSD don't work, and that they encourage huge amounts of fiscal waste. I wish the state would take a look at that along with whatever the legislature decides to do in terms of funding this time around.
Thanks again for keeping us posted, and I hope you will continue to do so, despite the occasional lunacy that ensues in the form of comments. :)

You can't improve the education system without making the tough choices like implementing the…Read More Wisconsin reforms. Next you have to stop Common Core in its tracks. Common Core is just a way for the federal government to institute another phase of Agenda 21 by taking over the education system at all levels. The education of our kids must be done at the local level and not in D.C. or Sacramento. There has to be tenure reforms that makes it easier to terminate bad teachers who are tenured. At the same time we have to reward teachers who are doing an excellent job. We also need to recognize that not all students are created equally when it comes to grey cells. We have to stop trying to dumb down the bright kids and give them the opportunity they need to fly to new heights. Some kids are going to end up hamburger flippers while others will be rocket scientists or the next Steve Jobs or perhaps the next Herbert von Karajan. The answer is not to dump more money into this bottom less pit that gives us no results.

Stephanie:
I don't recall asking for examples of licensees who made bad choices. I do recall asking…Read More if "you have an objective basis for your concerns?" You responded by identifying some anecdotal (as opposed to statistical) evidence that some licensees made bad choices. Your evidence fails to support your position. Here's a brief article discussing the number of licenses that Florida has revoked because of gun related crimes: http://politics.heraldtribune.com/2012/07/25/florida-approaching-1-million-concealed-weapons-permits/
Regarding your questions about G. Zimmerman. (1) I've already pointed out mistakes ziimmerman made, including following Martin. So, no, I would not want him to be the neighborhood watch captain. (2) I can and do avoid places where there are increased risks of violence (ATMs at night, check-cashing stores, prostitutes, drug dealers). That being said, I cannot accurately predict when/where I will need a gun. People are robbed in grocery store parking lots as well as coffee store parking lots. So, I believe the desire to have a gun in those locations is not unreasonable. More importantly though, I don't think people who are licensed to carry guns should repeatedly take their gun on and off all day long. This needlessly increases the risk of a negligent discharge. (3) The forensic evidence strongly supports virtually every element of Zimmerman's account of the incident. The significant element that is unsupported is whether Martin saw and attempted to grab Zimmerman's gun. Given that Zimmerman was already sustaining serious bodily injuries, this element isn't really necessary to believe the propriety of acting in self-defense. As to the two lies you reference, the first related to Zimmerman's finances. It was his wife who made the representations to the court. Zimmerman sat there "like a potted plant" in the words of the court. This obviously reflects poorly on him, but likely will not be presented to the jury. The second lie relates to his passport. A second passport was issued to him after he reported the prior passport had been stolen. The court itself did not believe Zimmerman was lying about the second passport, but that there were more innocent explanations. You apparently believe I think Zimmerman is innocent. I am waiting to see all the evidence before I make up my mind.

You asked for some licensees who made bad choices with their concealed weapons and I gave them to…Read More you. Why don't you ever answer any of my questions? Knowing what you know now about George Zimmermans arrest record (before he killed Martin), would you want him in charge of your neighborhood watch? Does one need a gun to go to Starbucks? The grocery store? How can we believe anything Zimmerman says after he lied TO A JUDGE TWICE?

"Are you out of your mind or just a bloody, racist? The cleaner called---your hood is ready."
Yet Mr. Charles impugns the characher of respectable African-American neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson by calling him "vile" and "anti-equality."
How do you justify your hypocrisy, Mr Charles?
Arthur Christopher Schaper April 27, 2013 at 06:39 pm
Other high (or rather "low") lights from Mr. Charles:
"The next time you choose to…Read More mention my "hateful retorts", I suggest you know what the he!! you are talking about first and do some research, you pathetic, simpering wimp."
Here is some research below:
"And ease up on the med cliches--you bore the he!! out of me."
and
"What kind of a blathering moron are you? Your gun would stop the bombs HOW?"
This one is hilarious, too!
"nonoise, you sound incredibly bitter and ignorant. Maybe your insurance will cover a lobotomy."
"Shapiro is a gullible little dope."
This comment cannot be ignored for its racial vehemence and ignorance:
"You cherrypick the comments of the vile, anti-equality Dr. Ben Carson"
Dr. Ben Carson advocated for Health Saving Acconts for everyone -- very equality-minded, and nothing vile about it. Waxman voted against tax credits for Health Savings Accounts, by the way.

In the mid 80s & 90s it was "SEX SELLS". The late 90s into 2005 brought us funny ads…Read More that centered around dumb stunts, usually ending up with some poor guy getting hit in the 'boys'. Between then and now, the "heart tug" or "real men cry" ads like the Budweiser "Clydesdale friends forever" ad. Which of course was the perfect follower to Bud's "Mascot dog trains horse Rocky style" and "Donkey gets a shot" ads. All ad hall of fame'rs in my humble opinion.
Sadly, it looks like the ad world has taken two giant steps backwards with the bevy of male & female eye candy flashed over disclaimers of side effects such as : Nausea, vomiting, uncontrollable flatulence, sudden weight gain, sudden weight loss, skin rash, welts & boils, hair loss, blindness, heart arrhythmia, swollen glands, muscle atrophy, Turrets, short term memory loss and how the product should not be used by or in proximity to pregnant women or nursing mothers.
However, I would like to say "feek'n about time" for all the "thank you and honor our military and first responder" theme ads.
But if I could change ONE THING in regard to this discussion... It would be to finally apply "Truth In Advertising Laws" to political ads!
What say you?
