MANHATTAN BEACH, CA (July 14, 2014) – After extensive renovations, Darren’s has officially reopened its doors. To celebrate the reopening, Darren’s will host a benefit dinner on July 29 which will raise funds for, No Limits for Deaf Children, an organization that has dedicated itself to enriching the lives of children with hearing impairments through after-school programs and theatre groups.
“Having the opportunity to partner with an organization like No Limits for Deaf Children and host a benefit dinner makes this experience that much more special for me. As a person with a hearing impairment, I wanted to give back to a cause that is very close to my heart.” says owner Darren Weiss.
No Limits for Deaf Children was founded in 1996 and has grown tremendously since its installment. The organization began as an after-school theatre program for hearing impaired children designed to improve their speaking abilities in a fun, non-academic setting. Throughout the years, the charity has expanded nationally beyond the theatrical arts to provide auditory, speech and language training year round. Parents bring their kids from near and far to be a part of this program because they know that No Limits is a place where their children feel safe, accepted, and where they are able to cultivate their creativity and communication skills so that they can confidently move into the world.
“Chef Darren is an incredible role model for these kids and we are thrilled to be a part of such an amazing event,” says Liz Martinez, Program Director for No Limits for Deaf Children. “Our program is dedicated to teaching these kids that their dreams shouldn’t be hindered by their hearing impairment. We want to empower them to go after their own dreams with the confidence that they will succeed; and that is exactly the kind of example that Darren has set.”
The grand reopening benefit dinner, hosted at the new and improved Darren’s, on July 29 at 7 p.m. will feature a four course prix-fixe menu. Guests in attendance will be offered a choice of an appetizer, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert, and the featured menu will also come with wine pairings to accompany their selections. Some of the menu options that guests can look forward to included spicy mussels, lobster chowder, braised beef short ribs, and a deliciously sweet triple chocolate brownie, among other options. The event will also offer post-dinner entertainment from none other than Kathy Buckley, the five-time American Comedy Award Nominee as Best Stand-Up Female Comedienne and the winner of countless other awards for her work. She is also an actress, writer and producer, author, humanitarian, and one of the country’s leading motivational speakers.
Tickets will go on sale today, July 14 and are $100 per person including wine pairings or $75 per person excluding wine pairings and can be purchased at www.darrensrestaurant.eventbrite.com. Gratuity is not included in the ticket price. Space is limited and spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit No Limits for Deaf Children.
