The Marine Avenue Park Turf Field opening ceremony was held today.
This field will be a wonderful addition for 3,600 AYSO participants, 500 Manhattan Beach Sand and Surf players, Vistamar High School soccer team, and club and adult soccer groups.
In addition to the new synthetic turf field, enhancements include: New field lights, New shade structures for the bleacher seating area, New storage shed for grooming equipment and AYSO soccer supplies
Benefits of synthetic turf include: year round play, approximately 10 years of anticipated use, safe, consistent play without holes, dirt or ruts, ability to play in all weather, level, consistent play, environmentally friendly (no fertilizer or pesticides will be used, no water will be used for irrigation, 300,000 lbs. of recycled tires were used that would otherwise take up space in a landfill), lower maintenance costs (no mowing, watering, fertilizing or re-seeding of the turf.
The installation of this field would not have been possible without the strong commitment and support of AYSO and their partners.
Ish Medrano, the City’s Project Manager from thePublic Works Department, deserves credit for his efforts in working with all parties to make sure that the project was completed on time and on budget.
The groundbreaking of this field supports the City's vision of providing excellent fields and facilities to enhance the City’s infrastructure to better serve the residents in the City of Manhattan Beach. It is also a great example of a successful Government – Private partnership.
The installation also supports the mission of the Parks and Recreation department by protecting our environmental resources, promoting health and wellness, strengthening our community image and sense of place, and by providing recreational experiences. I am confident that this field will provide years of enjoyment to the thousands of participants in our community.
