School is out Feb. 21. Here are our top picks for kid-friendly activities.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with your children. We'll give you information on family activities and events for the weekend. You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things for you to do and places for you to go, both locally and within a reasonable driving distance.

1. Winter Adventure Camp

Where/When: , 1701 Marine, Ave., Manhattan Beach; Monday, Feb. 21 through Friday, Feb 25; 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Why Go: There is a play structure, rock climbing (ages 8+), opportunity to learn new games in the Sports Court, gardening and more.

Pricing: Per day: $50. For the Week: $185.

  

2. Marine Exhibit

Where/When: , located at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier; Weekdays: 3 p.m. to sunset, Weekends: 10 a.m. to sunset.

Why Go: Experience the wonders of our local marine life. The Roundhouse serves as O.T.S.'s educational facility. Inside are ten primary aquaria, each displaying a brilliant selection of marine fish and invertebrates.

Pricing: Free, but donations of $2 per person and $5 per family are suggested.

 

3. Farmers Market

Where/When: , 13th Street & Morningside Drive; Tuesday, Feb. 22, 11 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Fresh, locally-grown fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants. Hot and prepared artisan foods.

Pricing: Entry is free.

 

4. Ice Skating

Where/When: Toyota Sports Center, 555 N. Nash Street, El Segundo; Monday, Feb. 21; 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Feb 22 through Friday, Feb. 25; 8:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Why Go: Give your kids a chance to skate on a professional ice hockey rink.

Pricing:

5. Whale Watching

Where/When: , 181 N Harbor Drive, Redondo Beach; Whale Watching tours at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Weekends and holidays, 1:30 p.m. to sunset.

Why Go: Spend three hours on the 'Voyager,' a double-decker sightseeing boat. Whale-watching season runs late December till early April, but during the rest of the year you can check out dolphins, pelicans and sea lions. Both ships seat 140 passengers, and both are operated on weekends and holidays, weather permitting.

Pricing: $25/$15 weekends - $15/$10 weekdays - children under 5 yrs. FREE - Group rates available
