Approximately 8,500 walkers helped to raise more than $750,000 by participating in the fourth annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk Sunday, said Lauren Dutko, Skechers spokesperson Monday.
Using the Manhattan Beach Pier area as their base, celebrities, including Tommy Lasorda, Brooke Burke and Denis Austin, along with event and city officials celebrated the walkers, who traversed The Strand south from the MB Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back on a beautiful beach day in Southern California.
Participants included dogs, babies in strollers, youngsters and adults, all joining together in what has become a festive event followed by Pumpkin Races in Manhattan Beach.
The money raised from the walk will be used to support children with special needs and education, according to the event website.
