Afternoon of Music at Trinity Lutheran

Manhattan Beach native Martha Kleiner returns to perform oboe with pianist Izumi Kashiwagi at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday.

Oboist flew in from Boston specifically to perform in Friday's "Bach's Lunch Recital" at Trinity Lutheran, her childhood church. The 2007 Mira Costa High School graduate played a 30-minute set with pianist Izumi Kashiwagi, whom she had just met last Tuesday. The pair managed to squeeze in two rehearsals, but their flawless performance seemed otherwise.

"It went well, because how she played and how I played...matched," Kashiwagi said.

Kleiner is auditioning for professional orchestras and will attend The Colburn School Conservatory of Music, while Kashiwagi is pursuing a doctorate in music.
