Mira Costa Grad Earns Top Distinction

Mira Costa High graduate Russell Sperberg's high academic achievement earned him the distinction of serving as assistant marshal at the Whitman College commencement ceremony earlier this month. The distinction is awarded to students with the highest grade point averages in the junior class.

Sperberg, the son of Radha Delamarter and Fritz Sperberg, is currently a senior theater major at Whitman College. He recently performed in the college's production of "Floyd Collins" and "The Tempest."

About 350 degrees were conferred during the May 19th ceremony in front of an estimated crowd of 4,000 family members, faculty, staff and guests. English comedian Eric Idle, a founding member of Monty Python, served as the 2013 commencement speaker.

Whitman College is an independent, non-sectarian residential college in Walla Walla, WA, with approximately 1,450 students.
