1. KARL STRAUSS BREWING COMPANY BEER TASTING AT LIDO 

Where/When: Lido di Manhattan Ristorante & Bar,1550-G Rosecrans Ave., Manhattan Beach, 310-536-0730; Thursday, 6-9 p.m.

Why Go: The tasting lineup is impressive: Tower 10 IPA, Red Trolley Ale, Amber Lager, Woodie Gold, Endless Summer Light, Big Barrel Double IPA and 22nd Anniversary. 

Price: $15 per person includes light refreshments. And if you decide to stay for dinner, you'll get 15 percent off your check. 

Where/When: Valley Drive and 11th St., Hermosa Beach; Friday, noon-4 p.m.

Why Go: You can get your fill of fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs and herbs while getting some sunshine. Besides, there are always free samples. Market is rain or shine.

3. JEWELS AND JESTERS 

Where/When: , 1018 Hermosa Ave., Hermosa Beach; Friday, 5-11 p.m. 

Why Go: This  benefits The Crown Jewel Club, a non-profit organization aimed at helping young girls with social and self-esteem issues.

4. 31ST ANNUAL AMERICAN MARTYRS 5K RUN/WALK 2011 

Where/When: American Martyrs School, 1701 Laurel Ave., Manhattan Beach; Saturday, Feb. 26, 8 a.m.

Why Go: Get your running shoes ready! This fun event attracts lots of families and is a fun outing to participate in or cheer others on. The course is fast and challenging as it winds for 3.1 miles through the Tree Section. Participants with a race bib get a free continental breakfast after the race and there will be prizes for costumes and finishers in each age and gender category. 

Pricing: Register in advance by Friday, Feb. 25 or on race day beginning at 6:30 a.m. by submitting a registration form (attached to this article) at the school office or in the Brigid & Brendan Room in the American Martyrs parking lot on Friday only from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adult $28, child $23. 5. ZERO WASTE FAIR 

Where/When: Manhattan Bread & Bagel, 1812 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach; Sunday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Why Go: Waste-free is the way of the future; learn all about it at the Zero Waste Fair. Plus, there will be snacks, recycling info and giveaways!

Price: Free
