Mothers Plan Target Nurse-In

Nursing mothers across the country plan to make their presence felt at their local Target.

Mothers have never shied away from a run to their local Big Box store, but on Wednesday, buying the household amenities will not be the task at hand for many women across America.

On Wednesday, nursing mothers from Maine to Oregon are expected to shuffle through their nearest Target and breast-feed their babies in response to the apparent mistreatment undergone by Michelle Hickman in her local Target store just last month, where she was hassled for breast-feeding her five-month old son in-store.

More than 100 nurse-ins are scheduled at 10 a.m. local time in at least 35 states, and over 6,200 people have joined the "Target Nurse-In" group on Facebook as a way of protesting against Target in response to Hickman's story.

According to Hickman, her son, Noah, woke up as Hickman was Christmas shopping at Target.

Hickman then claims that she moved to a "remote area of the store" to nurse Noah, where she was then harassed by several Target employees, according to Hickman.

Hickman called Target headquarters the next morning where, according to her, she was told “just because it’s a woman’s legal right to nurse a baby in public doesn’t mean she should walk around the store flaunting it.”

At that point, Hickman and a group of friends began spreading the word and eventually, the nurse-in was organized.
