Fishing With Dynamite to Open in April

Acclaimed M.B. Post Chef/Owner David LeFevre is opening a seafood joint two doors down on Manhattan Ave.

M.B. Post Chef David LeFevre could be blowing up the city's downtown dining scene when his latest venture Fishing With Dynamite opens this month.

Moving into a remodeled space previously known as Talia's, Fishing With Dynamite has the hallmarks of a winner: a successful award-winning chef and a location two doors down from M.B. Post in what has become a culinary destination: downtown MB.

Word is his menu will blend Old School and New School, East Coast and West Coast, with a raw bar, New England clam chowder and crab cakes and the likes of Grilled Octopus with Tomato-Harissa-Date Chutney, White Beans and Preserved Lemons and Miso Alaskan Black Cod with Gingered Eggplant and Thai Basil.

As with M.B. Post, LeFevre hopes to evoke something everyone loves and can relate to: friendly, sometimes communal dining sparked by a love of culinary art and Southern California beaches and sunshine.

Indeed, LeFevre's creations are quite acclaimed, and this venture should prove no different.

Fishing With Dynamite, which encompasses a much smaller space than M.B. Post, is sparked by his love of the sea and childhood summers spent fishing on Virginia's Eastern shore.

As a chef, LeFevre has spent time in the world's best kitchens, including a 7-year stretch as executive chef at Water Grill in Los Angeles, where he earned a Michelin Star.

“I'm grateful for the opportunity to have a sister restaurant in a community that I love and that has been so overwhelmingly enthusiastic and supportive," said the chef. "I'm looking forward to sharing a front row seat at the oyster bar with our guests."

Once open, Fishing With Dynamite, 1148 Manhattan Ave., will serve dinner daily from 5 to 10:30 p.m. The 1,100-square-foot restaurant will be walk-in only and will seat approximately 36 guests.

The restaurant will open for lunch in the near future, said LeFevre.
