ABC TV News Features Fired Employee

Manhattan Beach residents rally around their Waste Management route driver, whom the company released late last year. The reasons for his release are not public; MB residents are asking for his re-instatement.

For a few months, Manhattan Beach residents have been rallying for the re-instatement of Gilberto Santillan, a driver for the city's waste hauler Waste Management, who was terminated by the company on Dec. 5, 2011, according to a report by the Easy Reader.

Tonight, Santillan's plight was presented on an ABC Channel 7 news broadcast. Residents on his route were shown in support of his re-instatement.

WM's position was presented in quotes that appeared on screen in text.

In the Feb. 23 online post on the Easy Reader's website, Santillan said he "believes he was fired because of the accident, and three other self-reported incidents that caused minor damage to his truck last year."

The accident Santillan refers to was "a November property damage incident that left the corner of a cement driveway cracked," according to the Easy Reader.
