Notice of Planned Flare Event at Chevron

The Chevron Refinery in El Segundo notified the South Coast Air Quality Management District of a planned flare event that expires Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

AQMD's Rule 1118 requires the refinery to provide the agency with a minimum 24 hours' notice for any flare event estimated to exceed one or more of the following daily limits:

  • 500,000 standard cubic feet of vent gas combusted,
  • 100 pounds of VOC emitted, and/or
  • 500 pounds of oxides of sulfur emitted

In its email notification, AQMD notes that the estimated flow/emissions and begin and end dates and times are simply estimates.

Chevron's 24-hour community helpline staff is available by calling (310) 615-5342.
