Power Outage in Manhattan Beach Impacts Nearly 1,500 Customers

Southern California Edison incrementally restored power throughout the day as its crews worked to remedy the situation.

Nearly 1,500 Manhattan Beach customers of Southern California Edison were without power sometime Thursday morning due to a problem with equipment near 31st St. and Vista, according to SCE's online information.

On its online outage map, SCE was anticipating all power would be restored by 6 p.m. Thursday. Power was restored to customers area by area throughout the day, according to SCE's online information.

Manhattan Beach Fire Department Captain Jim Muth said firefighters responded to a call of an arcing noise from power lines. When they arrived, firefighters found two pieces of an arm that holds wires atop a power pole had split apart.

He said a "little fire burned through" and wind caused the fire to smolder. SCE personnel put out the smoldering fire with equipment supplied by the fire department, he said.

The fire did not threaten homes, said Muth.
