Simmzy's Celebrates Bruery's 5th With Tapped Kegs, Special Cuisine

Certified Cicerone and acclaimed Chef Anne Conness has fashioned a menu in which every dish has a Bruery beer as an ingredient.

In honor of Chef Anne Conness achieving the status of Certified Cicerone, Simmzy's is turning her loose Tuesday night to tap into her beer and food expertise so you can "Eat Like a Belgian" and celebrate The Bruery's 5th Anniversary.

Conness, who is one of only 2 women in Los Angeles County to earn the certification, has created a 3-course Belgian prix fixe dinner for $23. Each course incorporates a Bruery brew into its recipe.

The menu is expected to be:

  • Mussels Frites – Mussels steamed with Bruery Hottenroth (a Berliner Weisse), served with Fries and Garlic Aioli
  • Carbonnade Flamande – Flemish Beef Stew with Rugbrod (a rye beer, in place of the traditional red wine)
  • Belgian Chocolate Cake –  with Smoking Wood (a smoked imperial porter).

The event will also feature 9 of The Bruery’s beers, including their anniversary brew “Bois”, on tap. Kegs of the following Bruery brews will be tapped at 5 p.m. 

  • Bois (5th Anniversary Beer)
  • Loakal Red
  • White Oak 
  • Saison Tonnellerie

The same event will take place Tuesday at the same time at Simmzy's in Long Beach. Simmzy's is calling this their first bi-location tap take over. Long Beach Simmy's will feature Bois and 6 different Bruery brews.

A Certified Cicerone is the second level in the certification of cicerones. The first is a Qualified Beer Server; the top is Master Cicerone. Certified Cicerones are said to "have a deep and well-rounded knowledge of beer and beer service as well as competence in assessing beer quality and identity by taste."
