Sprouts & Shutters: Fishing With Dynamite, Rock & Brews, Project Taco

Our Sprouts & Shutters column highlights the latest restaurant, retail and other business news in South Bay's neighborhoods. 

Sprouts:

• Fishing With Dynamite held a soft opening Friday in Manhattan Beach. The seafood restaurant is operated by Chef David LeFevre and his partner Jerry Garbus. LeFevre's much-praised Manhattan Beach Post Restaurant is located nearby. Fishing With Dynamite blends East Coast and West Coast styles and offers a raw bar, clam chowder, crab cakes and more exotic fare like grilled octopus and miso Alaskan black cod with gingered eggplant and Thai basil.

Located at 1148 Manhattan Ave., Fishing With Dynamite will serve dinner daily from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. It opens April 30, according to its Facebook page.

• Rock & Brews set a May 8 opening for its craft beer/rock music-themed restaurant in Riviera Village on the border of Torrance and Redondo Beach. The opening was announced by KISS co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, a partner in the Rock & Brews franchise. The restaurant is taking over the space formerly occupied by Oliver's Cafe at Pacific Coast Highway and Palos Verdes Boulevard.

Stanley and Simmons will attend the restaurant's grand opening ceremonies. The event includes a $250-per-person evening gala benefiting the Torrance Education Foundation. 

Rock & Brews PCH, as the Riviera Village eatery is called, stirred controversy at the Torrance City Council, where residents spoke for and against Rock & Brews' plans. Numerous conditions were placed on the restaurant, including early closing for both its outside patio and alcohol sales on certain nights.

• Project Taco opened in Hermosa Beach, offering up unique tacos like The Lox, Hermosa Hummus and Apple-Kale Coleslaw. The shop opens daily from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Owner Nick Fontova was welcomed with cupcakes from Frosted, a neighboring business. "It's like a family already," said Fontova.
