Los Angeleno Joshua Jordison lost a favorite neighborhood shop, but he decided to try and do something about it in a big way.

Jordison is the founder of Threadcrawl, a seven-day shopping event that takes place in Greater Los Angeles and offers customers a chance for discounts at selected clothing stores, including some in Manhattan Beach.

“I’m a Los Angeles native and last year there was a particular clothing store that I enjoyed that went bankrupt and out of business,” Jordison said. “I was there just two weeks before and then I went back and it was gone, the sign was gone, everything.”

Jill Roberts and Margaret O'Leary in Manhattan Beach are two of 135 businesses participating in the event.

Threadcrawl is from Monday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 25 and $2 from the $17 ticket will go toward City of Hope, a cancer research and treatment hospital. Ticket holders will be offered discounts at numerous stores throughout Los Angeles County.

Jordison said Threadcrawl gives local businesses a chance to bring in new customers. Stores are offering an average of a 20 percent discount, but according to Jordison, some stores might offer exclusive discounts up to 70 percent off.
