Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

With funding from the AQMD, the City is moving forward with plans to install two Electric Vehicle charging stations at the Public Works Yard, and two at Parking Lot 4 in North Manhattan Beach. Grant funds made available through Air Quality Management District's Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Committee can be utilized for EV charging technology. Following the successful installation of four charging stations in the City Hall garage using California Energy Commission funds, this next phase of infrastructure will ensure that residents in other parts of the City have access to charging stations. This phase of the project is expected to cost $10,600, with 50% covered by the grant funds and the remaining balance coming from the City’s budgeted operating funds. The next phase of grant funding closes in February 2014. We will be pursuing funding to install networking systems that monitor the usage of the charging stations, as well as install charging stations in the Metlox parking garage and Parking Lot 3. Matching funds for this grant could be allocated from the City’s AB2766 Subvention Funds, and would be estimated at $25,000 for the City’s match amount. Staff will prepare a briefing for City Council review and consideration in the coming months. Best regards, Dave Carmany
