City May Pay Chamber of Commerce $100,000 for Economic Development

With new leadership at the helm of the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce,  the non-profit organization has been working to re-develop a financial connection with city government.

For the first time since fiscal year 2010-2011, the Manhattan Beach City Council gave the chamber $75,000 for fiscal year 2012-2013. Tuesday night, at a regularly scheduled City Council meeting, council will vote on whether or not $100,00 should be awarded to the chamber for economic development.

Recent amounts the city has given the chamber are $50,000 in fy 2009-2010, $25,000 in 2010-2011 and zero in 2011-2012, said Bruce Moe, city finance director.

Other meeting agenda highlights include a review of the city's rules and procedures to reduce construction impacts in residential neighborhoods.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers at 1400 Highland Ave. Michael Murrey will be recognized as the Firefighter of the Year during a ceremonial presentation.
