Free 'Hands Only' CPR Training Tuesday

With "just two easy steps," you could save someone's life.

To that end, on Tuesday, members of the Manhattan Beach Fire Department and the Community Emergency Response Team will provide free "Hands Only" Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training at four locations in the city as part of Sidewalk CPR Day held during National CPR Week.

"Surviving cardiac arrest greatly depends on immediate CPR from a family member or bystander,” said Manhattan Beach Fire Chief Robert Espinosa. "'Hands Only' CPR has just two easy steps and can be taught quickly and effectively by trained personnel... Nearly 80 percent of cardiac arrests happen at home, so the life you save is likely to be a loved one.”

Hands Only CPR has proven to be as effective as conventional mouth-to-mouth CPR and can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival, according to officials, who also note that only one-third of people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest receive this lifesaving treatment.

Free training will be available at

  • 10 a.m., Manhattan Beach Pier
  • 11:15 a.m., Metlox Plaza, 451 Manhattan Beach Blvd.
  • 12:30 p.m., Bristol Farms, 1570 Rosecrans Ave. and
  • 1:45 p.m., Manhattan Village mall, Center Court, 200 Sepulveda Blvd.,
For more information, call the Manhattan Beach Fire Department at 310-802-5204.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is also offering free training Tuesday.
