Manhattan Beach Open Tournament Registration Ends Tuesday 8 a.m.

Open division tennis players will compete for $12,500 in prize money during the 46th Annual Manhattan Beach Open Tennis Tournament July 18-21. Amateur players will have the opportunity to win prizes from local restaurants and businesses.

The registration deadline for players 16 and older has been extended to 5 p.m. Tuesday. Registration per player costs $40 for amateur singles, $55 for amateur doubles, $75 for open division singles, and $100 for open division doubles, said Jessica Vincent, recreation supervisor for the city's Parks & Recreation Department. 

The single-elimination tournament is a "best two out of three" and will offer prizes and trophies for all division winners.

A player party is set for the night of Saturday, July 20 at the Manhattan Country Club, free for registered players whose guests will be admitted for $10 per person, said Vincent. The player party will include a band, appetizers and a raffle for prizes such as hotel stay packages, Murad gift baskets, and Wilson raquets and bags. All tourney participants will receive a T-shirt, goodie bag and lunch.

Among the prizes an amateur may win is a hotel stay at The Belamar Hotel and gift certificates from Sketchers, Darren's, Circa, Simmzys, Salt Creeke Grille, Susie Cakes, Trendy Sunglasses, Murad spa, Terranea, Equinox, Margaret O'Leary and Fresh Brothers.

The tournament's presenting sponsor is South Bay Ford. Other major sponsors include Dinsmore & Sandellman, Anastasi Real Estate, Aetna, Sports Authority, SuperSports and Katan.

Players may register online at www.citymb.info, by walk-in at City Hall, 1400 Highland Ave., or the tennis office at Live Oak Park, 1901 Valley Drive, or by faxing the completed registration form to (310) 802-5401.
