Updated: Power Outage Lingers Into Monday Morning

A power outage that affected 970 customers late Sunday night is expected to be fully resolved by 3:00 p.m. Monday.

69 Southern California Edison customers are still without power Monday morning following a power outage that started late Sunday night, according to SCE spokesman Paul Klein.

The outage, caused by downed power lines, initially affected 970 customers at 11:23 p.m. Sunday, Klein said. The boundaries of the outage stretched from Rosecrans in the north to Via Escuela in the south and Sepulveda in the east to Blanche Road in the west.

Power was restored to the majority of those customers shorty after midnight, Klein said.

For the 69 still without power, Klein said crews are working to fix the problem and should have power restored by 3:00 p.m. Monday.

"What happens in a situation like this is oftentimes the customers who are closest to the problem sometimes are the ones who are out the longest," Klein said.

Klein also said that because SCE uses an automated system, large blocks of customers without power can be routed to other circuits, which could explain Sunday night's quick recovery time.

The reason for the downed power line which caused the outage is still unknown, Klein said.

I live at 35th and Walnut - without power from 1:00 a.m. approx. to 8:00 a.m. Interviewed Edison employees on the street at 7:00 a.m. - said that trees touched power lines, causing the power lines "to burn to the ground".
