An equipment failure caused a power outage for more than 3,000 Southern California Edison customers in the Beach Cities early Thursday morning, according to an SCE representative.

SCE spokesman Paul Klein said the outage started at about 5:15 a.m., and the company began restoring power to customers within 30 seconds. Power was restored by 9:20 a.m.

The northern boundary of the outage was 30th Street, the eastern boundary was Rindge Lane in Redondo Beach, the southern boundary was Herondo Street at the border of Redondo and Hermosa Beach, and the western boundary was the Strand, Klein said.

While crews were fixing the initial outage, another circuit went out at about 6:30 a.m., Klein said. The second outage affected about 1,300 customers.

Power was restored within 13 minutes, Klein said.
