School District Board to Vote Monday on New Revenue Stream

The school district board of trustees will hold a special meeting Monday beginning at 6 p.m. to vote on a potential $500,000 in extra revenue for the district budget.

The additional dollars would come from a revised agreement with the city of Manhattan Beach for its use of school district facilities, including Polliwog Park, Begg Field and pool, tennis courts and fields at Mira Costa High School and fields at Manhattan Beach Middle School and all five elementary schools.

The new agreement would also provide maintenance support by the city for school hardscape in the form of slurry sealing, give city the use of school hardscapes and the swimming pool at Mira Costa, according to an online board agenda.

The new agreement would be for fiscal years 2013-2014 through 2015-2016. In the previous agreement, the city paid nothing for use of school district property and facilities, but did pay for maintenance, around $955,000 per year.

The Manhattan Beach City Council will vote on the new agreement at its Tuesday night meeting.
