Summer Reading List Combines Play And Music For Young Children

Children under the age of five can develop literacy skills with LEGO blocks and music produced just for them.

This summer, parents can help their children read while playing, with the LEGO DUPLO Read, Build, Play Summer Reading List 2013. A partnership between the Association for Library Service to Children and LEGO DUPLO, the summer reading list offers activities that engage learning by using LEGO blocks during story time.

Downloadable activity guides found on the official website help parents increase their child’s literacy skills, motor skills and learn shapes and colors. Because music is beneficial for children, a free music playlist provided by a preschool father features “uplifting, inspirational tunes.”

The ASLC’s executive book committee chose five books for children ages one to three and another five books for children ages three to five, according to a press release. The network of librarians, youth literature experts, administrators and faculty members is dedicated to the improvement of library services for children.
