The demise of the AVP cast a grim outlook this weekend on the festivities of the 50th anniversary of the Manhattan Beach Open. Patch followed up with local reaction and reported that some players, including Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh, refrained from participating due to the return to an "old school" game format.

Patch also kept up with the Manhattan Beach All-Stars, which led the World Series undefeated until Friday's loss against Bangor, ME.

A history of the South Bay Tea Party showed its growth over the past two years. The party is gearing up for a Sunday rally to raise money for a state Assembly candidate.
