Fall is Here . . . and it's Bringing Halloween

The first day of autumn was back on Sept. 22, but it hasn't been until this week that it's really felt like it to me.

In Southern California, that doesn't necessarily mean the leaves change like they do in other parts of the country, but it does mean we're past June gloom and the incredibly hot dog days of summer. Football's here and, as I write this, there's a Santa Ana warning for most of the area.

And with fall, comes one of my favorite holidays—Halloween. While it's not until the end of the month, it will be here before we know it. Now is the time to start planning the parties, deciding what to wear and making the costumes.

I'm Becca, the Patch community editor for this site and a dozen others in the greater Los Angeles area. I thought a blog would be a fun way to chat about all things Halloween — but this is a different kind of blog. This is an open, or community, blog. Anyone can post to it.

I'll be adding ideas for Halloween decorations, party treats, costume ideas and events as I hear and think of them. But you are invited to as well! In fact, this will be a lot more fun if you do. Share traditions, tell stories, let us know where the best decorated houses are and post lots and lots of photos.

Posting is easy. You have to be registered and signed in to the site (it's free and easy to do!), then you can post away. You'll know you're signed in if the site gives you a personal greeting up in the right hand corner. If it doesn't, click on the sign-in prompt.

Once you're signed in, you can write. Click on the "blogs" tab and look for the Halloween Fun blog and then start typing. Easy-peasy!

If you run into any problems or have any questions, shoot me an e-mail at rebecca.whitnall@patch.com. That's what I'm here for!

Happy haunting! -- Becca
