HOLY COW, I HAVE HAD SO MANY FRIENDS REACH OUT TO ME THIS WEEK BECAUSE THEY ARE STUCK IN EUROPE & ENGLAND AFTER LOSING THEIR WALLET. All they needed was some money wired and then they would transfer back to me after they get to the US. It must have been a group tour and everyone on the bus was robbed.
Let me know if you have questions or issues regarding Bill Bloomfield and his run for Congress. Bill is a local guy and easily accessible. I will gladly compile all the questions and get a response from Bill prior to the elections. I do not know Henry Waxman. If someone does I can forward the same questions. Fire away. Warts and all. Or if you wish, unsubscribe because i do tell a somewhat off color joke at the end of this email.
I participated in the Manhattan Beach TEDx conference last week at the MB Middle School. REMARKABLE, EXCELLENT, CATHARTIC DAY OF INSPIRATION. If you get a chance to go to a local TEDx (and they are everywhere) I highly recommend it. I even want to take my kids to the next one. The speakers, the presentations, even the filler moments were outstanding. This was my first one. Knew about TEDx but always procrastinated. Never again for the local conferences.These conferences will definitely make you THINK and hopefully inspire you to ACT!
VITALITY CITY BLUE ZONES is trying to get certification of MB as a Blue Zone. 20% of the residents of MB have to pledge to make healthier choices. The goal is 3603. If you would like to help with a pledge go to http://www.bluezonesproject.com/users/sign_up.
YIPES, HERE I GO AGAIN WITH MY AORTA ON MY SLEEVE...I LIKE WHAT BIDEN SAID IN THE VP DEBATE RE ABORTION. He may not personally believe in abortion but refuses to make that policy. Government should leave this issue as a personal decision. See below if you would like to weigh in. Thanks for sharing, Tess.THE CAMPAIGNThe Bill of Reproductive Rights is an effort by the Center for Reproductive Rights to deliver a thundering statement-backed by hundreds of thousands of signatures from concerned citizens like you-to the U.S. Congress and the President that they must guarantee and protect reproductive rights as fundamental human rights and stop the attacks by politicians who want to take those rights away.sign here! please forward this to your friends! this is so important! www.drawtheline.org

DID YOU KNOW?
Schools continue to spank despite waning public support.
19 = states that still allow paddling in school
23% = percentage of adults that support spanking by teachers
71% = percentage of adults in 2004 who accept all spanking (falling from 94% in the 1960s)According to research here is the problem with spanking.-- little evidence that spanking actually works to change a childs behavior. (perhaps a public hanging)-- kids spanked by their parents tend to be more aggressive.-- some studies show that corporal punishment can lead to lower IQs.-- the research can be misleading to lable everyone because disobedient kids who are disciplined are more likely to have behavioral problems in the first place. In these cases even verbal scoding doesnt lead to positive changes in behavior among children.-- a fine line between discipline and abuse. (you hear that, coaches and teachers!)
FROM ARINA. What Makes A Great Leader? A Point that Most Leaders Miss! A MUST READ BY ALL PERCEIVED LEADERS IN OUR COMMUNITY AND SCHOOLS!
Have you ever thought about what makes someone a great leader?
Is it charisma? Or rock solid self-confidence? Or maybe leadership is about seeing the big picture and being able to communicate this vision to other people?
If you think that this topic does not concern you, because your direct job responsibilities do not include leading other people, than think again.
Whether you want it or not, there will be times when you will have to lead other people. In fact, if you are a parent you are already a full-time role model, because your kids expect you to guide, support and inspire them (or at least that is what they should be doing).
Similar, if you ever want to get a job promotion, open your own business or become an authority in any field, then you will have to step up and become a leader. And not just a leader, but someone, who people respect, look up to and willingly follow.
Wouldn't it be great if other people stopped questioning your decisions, pretending not to hear your requests or becoming defensive every time you ask them to do something?
Maybe you are already a great leader, but just in case take a look at the most important, yet rarely practiced leadership quality.The truth about what makes a great leader.
Say what? How can being humble help anyone become a better leader? We often ask this question, because we associate humility with weakness and often low self-esteem.
But if you take a few minutes to think about the great leaders you've met in your life, be it your dad or someone who you consider your mentor, you will realize that these people are very humble.
This is why you liked them in the first place. This is why they triggered your inner motivation and desire to do better.
It is not just my opinion. There is tons of scientific research that shows why humility is so important when it comes to leading other people.
If you are a humble leader, you will automatically:
* lead by example
* admit your mistakes
* recognize your followers' strengths
What makes a great leader is not authority, but influence. The more people respect and genuinely like you, the more weight you will have when it comes to making decisions and motivating others.
If you try to show superhuman abilities or put yourself into a "I am superior to you" position, the chances are that you will be seen by others as pretentious or fake.
Unfortunately, many bosses (and teaches, coaches, boards, admin) that have every other quality to be great leader completely miss this point. This is why every 38 seconds someone in the world searches for "my boss is a jerk" term. So this problem seems to be universal.
(Rumor is at MCHS a coach was so despised the players had a secret facebook page that only the players knew about where they could vent. Thats sad. Should be the other way around.)
THANKS, VALERIE...What Is Couple Sex?
A 12-year-old girl went to her grandfather, who was working in the
yard and asked him, "Grampa, what is couple sex?"
The grandfather was surprised that she would ask such a question, but
decided that if she's old enough to know to ask the question, then she's old enough to get a straight answer. Steeling himself to leave nothing out, he proceeded to tell her all abouthuman reproduction and the joys and responsibilities of intercourse. When he finished explaining, the little girl was looking at him with her mouth hanging open, eyes wide in amazement. Seeing the look on her face, the grandfather asked her, "Why did you ask this question, honey?" The little girl replied, "Grandma says that dinner will be ready in just a couple secs."
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, NEIGHBORS!!!
