HAPPY FRIDAY, NEIGHBORS!!!  OCT. 26, 2012

Two from Mark Twain:

"Eat a Frog.  If you eat a frog first thing every morning, almost nothing as bad will happen to you the rest of the day."

Holy cow, Mira Costa HS frosh football put Graham in as their field goal kicker last week. In his first game as kicker he was 7 for 7!!!  Nice, job, Graham.

Yum!  This is Tammy's really busy season for catering...but I was able to spend a couple minutes with her the other day.  She has changed over the storefront To Go items to a Fall menu.  There is a Pressed (panini style) Short Rib sandwich on the menu.  NOW WERE TALKING!!!

HIGH FIVE TO NEIGHBOR SHERYL ROOKER for helping judge LA Social Venture Partners "Social Innovatation Fast Pitch".  Sheryl should try out for The Voice.  It was a pleasant surprise to see you up there.  Nice job, lady.   Social Inovation Fast Pitch finalists gave their pitch to 5 judges and a few hundred of us this week at the Saban Theatre on Wilshire.  10 finalists out of 100 entries compete for money to help fund their non-profit venture.  This is a competitive, 2-month training and mentoring program that helps non-profits succintly and powerfully "tell their story".  The program develops key skills, fosters new relationships, provides tremendous exposure, and enables them to attract new resources.  42 volunteer coaches are used to guide these individuals in describing their missions longterm goal and needs in 3-minutes!  Thanks for volunteering to judge, Sheryl.

I loved the feedback, questions, opinions i received after sending out MB Patch interviews of Bloomfield (local boy) and Waxman (38 yr veteran).  We are in the heat of politics.  I loved the discourse, very invigorating.  Even though I got one negative (unsubscibe me) comment I received many constructive & positive comments which led to discussion.  We need more open minded discussion to make informed decisions.  "Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything."  --  George Bernard Shawrespresentative comments below:  Comments representative of what i received:"As you have said, it's your blog.  People can read it, not read it and unsubscribe if they wish... You are completely entitled to have your own opinions and positions on your blog.  That's the beauty of the internet and living in America.  You can choose to give equal time if you wish on your blog.
That said, I look forward to hearing your future comments on issues..Keep doing what you're doing.  You continue to make a positive difference.
"Nice talking to you yesterday...seriously abandon the blog and do stand up.  After reading this, I can say, I agree with the no spanking bit, disagree with the prochoice bit, and will strive to be more humble.Have a good weekend and thanks for putting us on this list."
I also had one comment from a longtime (30-years!) pal (school teacher) who said she is for Waxman because of his support for education in the past.  (JL, when i see you at thanksgiving we can discuss.)
Some of you asked for Bill Bloomfield's position on issues such as education, Israel, Iran, Abortion, High Speed rail system, etc.Bill told me he is pro-choice and he recommends going to his website to get his response to the issues.www.bloomfieldforcongress.com

STAND UP COMEDY...maybe that is my new career!!

AND...Dear 9th-12th Grade MBYB Boys,
Tryouts for this year will be on Sunday, November 4th from 5-6PM @ MIRA COSTA HIGH SCHOOL.  Please wear Basketball Shoes as you will be playing 3 on 3.  You will be there less than an hour!
We know that a lot of you think everyone knows who you are however, remember, there are 4 grades and not ALL of the coaches know who you are, they may only know the kids in their sons grades, so if you can come to tryouts, please do, if NOT, please email your weight to srooker@peoplewarestaffing.com, directly.
If you are receiving this email and cannot come to the tryouts, don't worry, you will be drafted on a team!
If you have friends that want to play in this league, it will be closed after October 31st and there will be a wait list and this division is almost full, right now!
Games will be played on Sunday nights either at Mira Costa or American Martyrs gym.

DID YOU KNOW?

--  5 = in US number of minutes an American has to work to afford a beer, according to a new study of median wages and average beer prices across 150 countries.  The average for most nations is 20-minutes.

--  50% = percentage of Australia's Great Barrier Reef that has vanished in the past three decades, partly because of higher ocean temperatures.

--  Running, hiking and biking in nature is better for you than simulating the same exercise indoors.  Research shows that excercising outdoors lowers stress levels far more effectively than at a gym.  Outdoor exercise can burn up to 20% more calories than indoor because you body has to fight to stay stable on uneven ground and maintain its termperature in all kinds of weather.  Outside your focus is on the effort, not a TV, an iPhone, or another distraction.  One Harvard study even found that outdoor exercise cuts heart disease by boosting vitamin D levels.

Thanks for sharing sis.  Are you smarter than a 60 year old?
