The 2012 annual ART90266 auction will be held at Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach on October 25, 2012, to raise money to send every 2nd and 3rd grader in the Redondo Beach Unified School District—approximately 1,400 children—to the renowned Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Organized by LA25, a network of entrepreneurial South Bay professionals, the ART90266 fundraiser is a live auction of fine art, photography and mixed media by world-class artists from within and around the South Bay. The event will include works donated by prominent artists, including Al Satterwhite, Anthony Friedkin, Alex Weinstein, Bo Bridges, Brian Kingston, Tricia Strickfaden and Robert Glenn Ketchum. The money raised will go to the Redondo Beach Education Foundation, which will help arrange the excursions with the school district.
“ART90266 is a remarkable event that brings together the community for a common purpose,” said John Capellaro, co-founder of LA25. “The artists, sponsors and guests are giving their time and money to a targeted program that will touch the lives of our community’s children in a positive way. We hope that the children might discover their inner artist and have their imagination lit in a new way that inspires and affirms their creativity.”
Exposing Youth to Local Cultural Treasures
“We are delighted that LA25 has chosen our 2nd and 3rd graders to be the focus and recipients of proceeds of this year’s ART90266 auction,” said Annette Alpern, Ed.D, the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Services at the Redondo Beach Unified School District. “LACMA is an amazing place and spending a day there can be a powerfully inspiring experience for young children. We are very fortunate to live in a community where the collective efforts of artists, sponsors and organizers can give our youth exposure to our local cultural treasures, which they might not otherwise see.”
With 100,000 objects dating from ancient times to the present, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is the largest such museum in the western U.S. Located in the heart of Los Angeles, its seven-building complex features exhibitions, public programs and research facilities that attract more than a million visitors annually. Its collections have earned it international stature and encompass the geographic world, and virtually the entire history of art.
Many of the ART90266 contributing artists have works displayed at prestigious national galleries, including LACMA, the New York Museum of Modern Art, The Smithsonian Institute’s National Portrait Gallery and the Houston Museum of Fine Art.
Benefactors, Sponsors and Friends of the ART90266 include the Redondo Beach Educational Foundation, Shade Manhattan Beach, Moon Tide Media’s Southbay magazine, LACMA and Paolucci Communication Arts. The Shade Hotel facility has room for 160 guests. ART90266 is currently accepting artist submissions and corporate sponsorships.
