A funeral service will be held at American Martyrs Catholic Community Church and School Friday at 10:30 a.m. for former Redondo Beach Councilman John Parsons, 61, who died Thursday morning after suffering a stroke. Parsons was hospitalized after he suffered a stroke near the end of Tuesday's Redondo Beach City Council meeting.

A reception will immediately follow at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, located at 1935 Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Redondo Beach Rotary Club's John Parsons Scholarship Fund. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 411, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
