Brews News: Select Beer Celebrates 1 Year

A look at what is happening on the craft beer scene in the South Bay of Los Angeles.

It was a big year for craft beer in the South Bay with the opening of two new breweries and a new specialty beer store.

Next month, Select Beer Store in Redondo Beach will celebrate its one year anniversary with three different events.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, Select Beer teamed up with Torrance's Monkish Brewing Company to brew a special batch of beer known as "Select Monk 1." The beer will be released at the first of three anniversary events at the store.

Beer Bars, Restaurants and Stores

Select Beer Store | Redondo Beach

Select Monk Beer Release | Thursday, March 7 | 5 p.m.

Select Beer, in partnership with Monkish Brewing will release the "Select Monk 1." The beer is described by Select Beer as a "multi-grain, Belgian-style table beer."

The Vella Mobile Wood Fire Pizza truck will also be on hand serving up fresh pizzas and calzones to enjoy with the beer.

L.A. Total Tap Takeover | Saturday, March 9 | Noon - 10 p.m.

All 12 of Select Beers taps will feature local Los Angeles and regional breweries all day long.

Hot dog truck Let's Be Frank will also be there serving up gourmet, grass fed all beef hot dogs.

Pi Day | Thursday, March 14 | 5 p.m.

Select Beer will be celebrating "Pi Day" (3/14, get it?) by hosting pie company I Heart Pies to pair up their sweet and savoury pies with beers on tap.  

Adam's Fine Wine & Liquor | Redondo Beach

New bottles of craft beer at Adam's this week include:

  • Stone Enjoy by 4/1/13 IPA
  • Beachwood Brewing Full Malted Jacket (Scottish Ale)
  • The Bruery Sour in the Rye
  • Lost Abby Red Poppy (Sour Ale)
  • Stone 2013 Old Guardian (Barley Wine)
  • Stone Oak Smoked Old Guardian (Barley Wine)

Breweries

The Brewery at Abigaile | Hermosa Beach

Head brewer Brian Brewer is working on a new IPA which will be known as "Death or Glory IPA" and should be on tap by Tuesday.

Also on tap is a version of Abigaile's Amber Ale with cocoa nibs.

Smog City Brewing | Torrance

Smog City continues to build its new brewery in Torrance and last week installed its walk in cooler for storing kegs of its beer. Locals anxiously await the official opening of the brewery.

Strand Brewing Co. | Torrance

El Segundo Brewing | El Segundo

Monkish brewing is celebrating one year of brewing beer!
