New Year's Spotlight: Ron Walker

This Manhattan Beach Police Sergeant misses fellow officers who died from cancer in 2010 and 2011. They worked the holiday season together in years past. His gift to his children would be a 'long and prosperous life.'

Name: Ron Walker
Occupation: Police Sergeant

What will you do on (New Year's Day) Jan. 1 and 2? I will be working.

What stands out to you about 2011, either personally, professionally or in general? The passing of Officer [Mark] Vasquez and Officer [Jeff] Goodrich to cancer.

Do you have any New Year’s traditions? Now that I am older, I enjoy staying at home and celebrating with the family.

What do you look forward to in 2012? Take a nice vacation this summer.

What don't you like about it? Knowing there are others in this country that are not as fortunate.

What's your holiday wish for others? To be safe and drink responsibly.

What are your plans for this New Year's Eve? Play some golf and go out to dinner with the family. We will ring in the New Year at home.

Is there anyone near and dear to you who wasn't with you for the holidays? Who, and why? As discussed earlier, Officers Vasquez and Goodrich are truly missed. We have worked together during the holiday season over the past several years.

If you could give someone in your life whatever gift you wanted to, what would the gift be and who would you give it to? For my kids to be successful and live a long and prosperous life.
