Manhattan Beach Armed Robbery Ends in Standoff

Two suspects are taken into custody after allegedly trying to rob Pier 1 Imports.

Two men were arrested Sunday after Manhattan Beach Police responded to an armed robbery call at Pier 1 Imports at 1800 Rosecrans Ave.

Manhattan Beach Police Lt. Steve Tobias said the men were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and armed robbery.

The incident was first reported at 7:04 p.m., said Rachael Parker, MBPD records tech.

During the three-hour standoff, police surrounded the store and evacuated nearby businesses. Workers left the store without incident. Police negotiators established communication with the suspects, who were left trapped inside Pier 1 Imports alone, said Tobias.

The suspects surrendered just after 10:30 p.m.

Manhattan Beach police were supported by several other agencies during the operation, including members of the Gardena Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Hawthorne police.

No injuries were reported.

TOO bad I was hoping our cell phone ticket writing overpaid heroes would have a newsworthy gun fight and then end it all by having North Korea assist and drop a nuclear bomb on the Pier One. Did the MBPD have any hit and run accidents coming to or leaving the scene? Did any of them get cancer. Film at 11.

You must have gotten a ticket lately, Debra. Such anger! Hope to see you at the Police Department Memorial and Open House on May 12th at 9am. Educate yourself-you sound stupid.

are u against the law or those enforcing it? would you rather have a local police force or the LAPD? guessing it's your world and we just live in it?

Yeah...last time I checked talking on a cell phone while driving was illegal. So your anger should be directed at yourself, and not on law enforcement.

Debra, you are one of self absorbed entitled twits that have enhabited this wonderful town over the last few years. I sure hope you haven't reproduced.

I apologize for my statement. Just out of frustration. I've lived in MB for 70 years. I don't like many of the changes to this town. I will cool it down from now on.

Thanks for saying so here in this public forum. Wow! Seventy years in MB! How cool is that! Send me an email if you're game for an interview and/or to talk about what you've seen during those 70 years. liz.spear@patch.com or call 310-435-6010
