Manhattan Beach Armed Robbery Ends in Standoff

Two suspects are taken into custody after allegedly trying to rob Pier 1 Imports.

Two men were arrested Sunday after Manhattan Beach Police responded to an armed robbery call at Pier 1 Imports at 1800 Rosecrans Ave.

Manhattan Beach Police Lt. Steve Tobias said the men were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and armed robbery.

The incident was first reported at 7:04 p.m., said Rachael Parker, MBPD records tech.

During the three-hour standoff, police surrounded the store and evacuated nearby businesses. Workers left the store without incident. Police negotiators established communication with the suspects, who were left trapped inside Pier 1 Imports alone, said Tobias.

The suspects surrendered just after 10:30 p.m.

Manhattan Beach police were supported by several other agencies during the operation, including members of the Gardena Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Hawthorne police.

No injuries were reported.
