MBPD Gives Blood in 'Battle'

Chief Eve R. Irvine, police personnel and the public join together to increase the American Red Cross' winter blood supplies.

Through the efforts of the Manhattan Beach Police Department, their joint Battle of the Badges partnership with the American Red Cross produced some 54 total blood donations on Tuesday, said MBPD Officer Stephanie Martin.

In a preliminary count, Martin said the MBPD blood drive had 32 appointments made by donors and 22 walk-ins.

The 7th Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, staged by the American Red Cross with participating agencies, is a friendly competition designed to secure blood donations during the winter months when blood supplies typically fall to critically low levels, according to the Red Cross.
