The Mira Costa boys volleyball team plays a Dana Hills High squad tonight at home at 7 p.m. in CIF playoff quarterfinals.

If they win, the team will advance to the semifinals to compete against the victor of Esperanza vs. Santa Barbara, taking place at 7 p.m. tonight as well.

Following the 9 a.m. 5th Annual Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony to honor Manhattan Beach police officers who have been killed in the line of duty, the MB police and fire departments will hold an open house.

MB's full-time firefighters, all of whom are also paramedics, will cut open a car and roof prop using chainsaws during open house, according to Fire Chief Robert Espinosa.

Other highlights include a robot demonstration by the Hostage Negotiator Team, a display of public safety vehicles and equipment and facility tours. 

Public safety vehicles on display will include a fire truck, paramedic van, SWAT van, beach patrol Rhino (all-terrain vehicle), beach quadrunner, patrol car, traffic motorcycle,  T-3 (electric standup vehicle), animal control rescue truck and the mobile command center (donated to MBPD/MBFD by the Manhattan Beach Property Owner’s Association last year).  

In addition, police and fire personnel will display specialized equipment used for SWAT, animal aid, rescues and firefighting.

The open house begins after the memorial ceremony at the public safety Facility/Fire Station #1/Police Station at 15th Street and Valley Drive and lasts until 1 p.m.

The public parking lot accessible from 15th Street to access the library, city hall and police and fire building will be the site of the memorial ceremony.

Paid parking is available in Metlox Plaza (accessible from Valley Drive near Shade Hotel as well as on Morningside Drive, by taking a right turn from Manhattan beach Boulevard and another right turn into the parking structure) and in metered spaces on streets downtown.
