Citations to Be Issued on Strand and Beach Bike Path

The Manhattan Beach Police Department has announced a crackdown on how the two beachfront paths are used in order to keep all safe.

Walk on the beach bike path or ride on The Strand? Do either, and you're likely to receive a citation for doing the wrong thing if Manhattan Beach police or community service officers see you.

Beginning Monday, officers will move from the verbal warnings they've been giving the past month to citing those who are violating Manhattan Beach Municipal Code (MBMC) 14.28.230, which states that pedestrians are not allowed on the beach bike path, and MBMC 3.01.100(z), which states that only pedestrian traffic is allowed on The Strand, MBPD Sgt. Chris Vargas told Patch Sunday.

MBPD "believes that the education and subsequent enforcement will enhance the safety of our citizens and visitors and protect the quality of life that exists in our community," according to a press release. "These ordinances are in place so that bicyclists and pedestrians can use these paths in an enjoyable and safe manner."
