District Attorney Comments on Tennis Coach's Link to Country Club

The tennis coach facing 8 felony counts of lewd acts on a child younger than 14 held private lessons and worked at Junior Academy camps at the Manhattan Country Club from 2004 to 2005, said Bobby Taghavi, Orange County deputy district attorney, sexual assaut unit, Tuesday morning.

Jarrid Thomas Baldogo, Irvine, was arrested Thursday at his residence in the Westpark area of Irvine after police detectives had obtained a search warrant, according to the Los Angeles Times

"We don't know if he was directly a coach over there [Manhattan County Club]," he said. "I can tell you he coached some students there."

The charges stem from Baldogo's interaction with a private client he coached beginning late in 2012. Police were contacted by the victim’s parents on May 8 after finding text messages on their son's phone.

For the past 2 to 3 years, the 29-year-old has located clients via the Internet, according to police.

Taghavi said officials did not yet know if there are other victims.

"We're still in the middle of the investigation," he said, adding that Baldogo has had access to many kids as a coach.

Baldogo has worked for the Woodbridge Village Association in Irvine and Westchester High School in Los Angeles County, according to prosecutors.

He is being held on $1 million bail and could face up to 22 years in prison if convicted. In court on Monday, Baldogo's arraignment was rescheduled for May 31.

Potential victims and individuals with information are encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Lou Gutierrez at (714) 664-3943.
