Firefighters Battle Blaze in Original Beach House

Manhattan Beach firefighters knocked down a fire in what appeared to be an original beach house early Friday evening, said Fire Chief Robert Espinosa.

The fire, which apparently began along an outside wall of the structure, spread into the attic. Firefighters ventilated the blaze from the side of the house and did not have to break through the roof.

Residents in the area gathered near the 3200 block of Alma Avenue to see what they could. Manhattan Beach police officers closed Alma to through traffic as firefighters fought the fire. The Hermosa Beach Fire Department assisted in the effort, said Espinosa, as did some firefighters who'd been on hand at the downtown Manhattan Beach fire station to attend the funeral of a fellow firefighter.

No one was hurt in the fire. The home's renters were on scene helping investigators piece together what might have started the blaze.
