Fleeing Suspect Sent to Hospital After Leaping Onto Car Roof

A Manhattan Beach resident was in the car when the person jumped onto it while trying to escape police.

A foot chase led to an unexpected tagalong for a Manhattan Beach resident who was sitting in the driver's seat in their driveway when a forgery suspect jumped from a garage roof onto the car roof while fleeing police, according to the Manhattan Bech Police Department.

The incident happened on Friday, Sept. 20 between 4 and 5 p.m. when police responded to a call of a forgery in progress at Chase Bank in the 2600 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard. Police detained one suspect at the scene, however, another was identified by a bank employee as that person tried to drive out of the parking lot, said police.

When police tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect parked the car and fled westbound on foot. It was during the chase the suspect fled through commercial property on Sepulveda Boulevard, jumping a rear fence and onto a roof of an adjacent garage.

The suspect was detained after jumping onto the car and transported for medical treatment.
