A Friday/Saturday DUI checkpoint held by the Manhattan Beach Police Department resulted in eight arrests for driving under the influence and citations for unlicensed driving, said Sgt. Chris Vargas.
The checkpoint, staged in Manhattan Beach, was part of the “Avoid the 100 DUI Task Force” funded from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Safety Administration.
Approximately 29 officers from police departments in Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Inglewood, Torrance, Gardena, Los Angeles and the California Highway Patrol participated. Five civilian employees with the city of Manhattan Beach and eight volunteers from the Manhattan Beach Police Department supported the effort, he said.
