Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes was out on bail today after being arrested on suspicion of threatening a police officer Monday night.
Barnes, 32, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard, said Manhattan Beach police Lt. Steve Tobias.
An officer who was aware that Barnes had an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor traffic offense saw him on foot and took him into custody, Tobias said.
Barnes threatened the officer in the course of being arrested for the
traffic warrant, Tobias said.
Barnes was booked at the Manhattan Beach Police Department, with bail set at $51,000 -- $26,000 for the traffic warrant and $25,000 for the alleged threat.
Barnes posted bond and was released around 11:20 p.m., Tobias said.
There was no immediate response to a request for comment from the Lakers.
The arrest was initially reported by the celebrity news website TMZ.
