Man Enters Bedroom Asking for Valuables in Residential Burglary

Manhattan Beach Police aren't yet sure if there's a connection between the Thursday night burglary and a subsequent arrest.

Police are investigating whether or not there's a connection between two suspects arrested during a traffic stop Thursday night and a residential burglary that occurred an hour or so before the arrest.

At around 8 p.m. Thursday, a woman in the 400 block of Altura Way sleeping in a bedroom with her children called Manhattan Beach Police to report a burglar had entered her home, asked where her husband, money, jewelry and cell phone were, and then told her to stay in the bedroom as he searched the home, according to a Manhattan Beach Police Department Nixle report.

A little over an hour after that report, police conducting a traffic stop just outside city limits, arrested the driver and a female suspect for numerous burglary charges, said Manhattan Beach police.

Police pulled the vehicle over for several traffic violations and while conducting an investigation learned the driver was on active parole for burglary, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was in possession of burglary tools, according to the report.

The male driver and his female passenger were arrested for burglary charges; the male also arrested for the warrant.

Police report a weapon was not used in the residential burglary Thursday and no one was injured. The lone suspect is believed to have entered the home via a rear sliding glass door.

The suspect is described as 6’2” with a thin build, wearing a ski mask and knit gloves. Officers searched the area for any suspects, but none were located at that time, said police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Manhattan Beach Police Department Det. Shawn Thompson at (310) 802-5124 or Det. Sgt. Paul Ford at (310) 802-5123.
