Man Robs Citibank Friday, Arrested Tuesday, Say Authorities

A man on federal probation for bank robbery was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of robbing a bank in Manhattan Beach Friday and Cerritos three days prior, said Manhattan Beach Police Detective Michael Rosenberger Wednesday.

Gregory Cross, 57, was arrested at a relative's home in Long Beach around noon Tuesday by the FBI and Rosenberger, who said Cross "didn't try to run or hide."

The Citibank robbery in Manhattan Village happened last Friday around 1:33 p.m. when a man, described as a black male with glasses and a graying moustache, gave a note demanding money to a teller at the branch located at 2710 North Sepulveda Boulevard. Rosenberger said the crime was so "low key" most people in the bank did not realize a crime was happening. Cross told authorities he left the scene in a car.

A weapon was not used in the Manhattan Beach crime and no one was injured, said Rosenberger.

When he contacted the FBI [bank robbery is a federal crime] to report the situation, Rosenberger learned the FBI was already looking for Cross in connection with a Cerritos bank robbery three days earlier. Rosenberger and the FBI "went looking for him [Cross], hitting neighborhoods where he hangs out," said Rosenberger.

Authorities used video footage from the Citibank robbery to identify Cross, he said.

Correction: Wednesday, 3:50 p.m. The arrest was made Tuesday, not MOnday as previously reported.
