Man Seen Prying Home's Door Open Brings Helicopter Search to Manhattan Beach

Police are asking the public for help if they saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident.

A male wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt prying open the front door of a residence in the 200 block of S. Peck Ave. Thursday night sent police and a helicopter to the neighborhood, said Lt. Christian Eichenlaub Friday.

Manhattan Beach police were alerted by a passerby who saw the man, whose burglary attempt triggered an alarm.

Police set up a perimeter and used a helicopter with heat-sensing equipment to try to detect body heat in the backyards of nearby residences but did not find a suspect, said Sgt. Matt Sabosky.

The incident happened around 7:45 p.m. Thursday. Eichenlaub said no loss was reported.

A newer model white Jaguar was seen in the area around the time of the residential burglary attempt. Police want anyone who saw the car or know anything about it to contact them.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident is asked to call the police department at (310) 802-5140.
